Copenhaguen is situated on top of two islands, which makes the city full of wonderful canals to discover. Nyhavn is one of the most famous ones, full of cafés and with delightfully coloured houses. The great mix of canals, parks and wonderful architecture makes Copenhaguen one of the reference cities in Europe. It holds a great air of respect, and luxurious shops can coexist with sociological experiments like Christiania. A great city to enjoy both for leisure and work!

Jökulsárlón, Iceland

One of the most amazing sights in Iceland is the Jökulsárlón Lagoon. The vast glacial caps in Iceland find an end in this lagoon, where you can see the icebergs drifting away to melt down into the sea. Although the ice caps in Iceland are undoubtedly one of its major attractions, the natural beauty of this peculiar island is just jaw-dropping. Waterfalls, rifts, geysers, black beaches and craters are just some of the sights you would never forget if you have the privilege of spending some time near the Polar Circle.

Donosti, Euskadi, Spain

The picture shows Hotel Maria Cristina, but San Sebastian has so much to offer you could just stay there all your life. Sail out to the sea in a small boat, enjoy the world famous pintxos, take a walk in one of the long sandy beaches, or just relax and chill out are just some of the many things you can do at Donosti.

Full with cultural events (like the International Film Festival) San Sebastian is also one of the cultural references in Spain. Don’t hesitate to go if you ever have the chance!

Burgos Cathedral, Spain

The incredible cathedral of Burgos, in northern Spain is one of the best examples of Gothic style cathedrals in Spain. Dating back from the 13th century, it has been modified several times until its actual form. It has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and it is one of the musts in Burgos.

Portobelo, Colón, Panamá

The fortifications of Portobelo are a UNESCO World Heritage Site that sure lived better times in the past. It was one of the ports used by the Spanish Crown to send the treasures from the “new world” and also witnessed the activities of pirate Henry Morgan. During the 18th century, the British managed to kick the Spaniards out and installed themselves at the city, and named the now more famous Portobello Road in London after this port.

However, the site is nowdays almost in ruins. The funds from both Spain and Unesco have not been well invested and all around the fortifications garbage can be found. The glorious days of Portobelo seem now to be forgotten, but one can easily imagine the fierce battles that once took place here.

Masaya Volcano, Nicaragua

Masaya is situated near Granada and near the city you can find this spectacular volcano, one of the many still active in Nicaragua. The smell of sulfur was very intense, and there were signs advising to park your car facing the exit and not to stay more than 10 minutes too close to the crater.

After facing one of the worst hurricanes in the last years and leaving away a dictatorship (although he has come back to power in democratic elections) Nicaragua is still fighting to get away from poverty. However, all of this suffering has made its citizens very though and friendly people who are willing to work hard to obtain a decent middle class that allows them to live a better life.

Colosseum, Rome, Italy

Rome is art, history and beauty at the same time. You may wander around places where the foundation of modern society took place, you may enjoy the many historical buildings still in place, you may get lost inside the incredible Vatican Museums (of course, you will find there many tourists looking for the Sixtine Chapel).

The Colosseum is one of those incredible places where you can travel back in time and feel as if you were watching the gladiators fight in front of you. Completed by Titus, he used it to make the people forget about his bad results in war, celebrating its construction with a full hundred days of festivity.

If you like Ancient Rome, do not miss the chance to visit the reconstruction shown in Google Earth.

Candelario, Salamanca, Spain

I enjoyed a calm and wonderful weekend in Candelario, a small town situated in Salamanca. No more than a thousand people live here, and is a great place to rest, slow down and hike around the hills near it.

The houses in town also have a peculiar charactestic, known as “batipuertas”. They are something like a half door before the real door and are used to keep the snow away during the winter and to let the air come in the house during the summer.

Parque del Retiro, Madrid, Spain

A Sunday walk around the biggest park in Madrid (El Retiro) during the last weekend of February lets you find out about the cosmopolitan capital of Spain, full with both locals and tourists who want to wander around while enjoying the first sunny days of the year.

The park, situated in the heart of the city, has a beautiful lake where you can rent a boat to enjoy both the sun and the water and is a must – see of Madrid.

Alicante, Spain

I took a trip to visit a friend who lives in Alicante. The weather was pretty awful, there was a lot of wind and rain from time to time. However, I enjoyed the trip and the city.

The picture was taken around the harbor and, as you can see, the clouds were announcing a windy and rainy night.
